Brief Overview of St. Kathryn Church History

Saint Kathryn Church in Hudson, New Hampshire was built in 1968 as a temporary mission church of Saint John The Evangelist Parish, which was the first Catholic Church built in Hudson. The original St. Kathryn Church was opened at its location on the corner of Lowell Road and Wason Road. The Decree of Erection of the Parish was October 4, 1968. The Dedication of Saint Kathryn as a Parish Church was June 21, 1969.

Saint Kathryn Parish is a member of the Diocese of Manchester, New Hampshire.

The Church was named after Saint Catherine of Sienna, and the Gaelic spelling “Kathryn” was chosen.

The first Pastor was the Reverend Gerald F.Chalifour. At that time, there were 221 families, 927 Souls, 491 adults, 59 high school students, 221 grammar school students and 156 infants enrolled as Parishioners.

Reverend Gary J. Belliveau became Pastor on December 9, 1993.

Project 2000: St. Kathryn’s Going and Growing into the Future began with a Pentecost Mission entitled “Blest are We” from June 3-7, 1995 to prepare for the building of a new church.

The groundbreaking ceremony at the Dracut Road location of the new church was held at sunset on June 27, 1999.

The old St. Kathryn Church was formally closed on June 11, 2000. Sunday Masses were held in the cafeteria at Presentation of Mary Academy and weekday Masses were held at the former Oblate Retreat House until the Dedication of the new Saint Kathryn Church on August 12, 2000.
